The funeral of Bangla Academy president, essayist, researcher, literary critic, and social analyst Prof Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq has been scheduled for Monday afternoon.
He had been attending a family gathering on Sunday when he suddenly became unwell and was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
Prof Huq’s daughter and Dhaka University teacher Shuchita Sharmin told bdnews24.com, “His funeral will be held at Dhaka University Central Mosque at 1pm [Monday].
“Before that, the coffin will be kept at Bangla Academy from 10:30am to 11am. It will be later taken to the Central Shaheed Minar and then to the foot of the Oporajeyo Bangla.”
Regarding the burial, she said: “We want to bury him at the Intellectuals’ Cemetery, but it is not confirmed yet as we must get permission.”
Bangla Academy has expressed grief over the death of the eminent scholar.
In a statement, the institution prayed for the peace of the late president’s soul and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family.
