Bangladesh recorded a strong rebound in internet subscriptions in May, with the number of users increasing by 2.65 million in a single month, according to the latest data from the BTRC.
Total internet subscribers rose to 134.07 million in May from 131.42 million in April, marking a month-on-month increase of 2.02 per cent.
Mobile internet users accounted for 119.12 million of the total, up from 116.47 million a month earlier, an increase of 2.65 million, or 2.28 per cent.
The number of broadband subscribers served through internet service providers (ISPs) and PSTN operators remained unchanged at 14.95 million.
The rise in internet subscriptions coincided with a recovery in the country's mobile phone subscriber base.
According to the regulator, total mobile subscriptions increased by 1.53 million in May to 188.60 million from 187.07 million in April, representing a monthly growth of 0.82 per cent.
The country's largest mobile operator, Grameenphone, added 940,000 subscribers during the month, taking its customer base to 85.90 million from 84.96 million in April.
Robi Axiata retained its position as the second-largest operator, adding 380,000 subscribers to reach 58.18 million.
Banglalink gained 220,000 subscribers to raise its customer base to 37.71 million, while state-owned Teletalk's subscriber base edged down to 6.81 million from 6.82 million.
Despite the monthly recovery, the country's mobile subscriber base remains below its mid-2025 level. Total subscriptions stood at 188.87 million in July last year before declining gradually in subsequent months.
