A well-marked low-pressure area over the northern Bay of Bengal and its adjoining region may intensify into a depression, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). As a result, rainfall is expected to increase, particularly across the southern parts of the country.

Meteorologist Md Bazlur Rashid told bdnews24.com, "There is a possibility that this well-marked low will develop into a depression. As a result, rainfall will increase. Rain has already begun intensifying in the southern region today and is expected to continue until the 12th or 13th. However, the danger signal is not being raised at this stage. Signal No. 3 remains in effect."

A low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal on Thursday. After gaining strength, it intensified into a well-marked low on Saturday.

According to the BMD's weather bulletin issued at 9am on Sunday, the well-marked low is currently located over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coastal areas of northern Odisha and West Bengal in India. It is expected to move further west-northwest and intensify.

The BMD has advised the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to continue displaying Local Cautionary Signal No. 3.

Under the influence of the system, squally weather may affect the seaports, the northern Bay of Bengal, and the adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and navigate with caution until further notice.

The Met Office also said that the axis of the monsoon trough extends through Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, the centre of the well-marked low, southern Bangladesh, and Assam.

The southwest monsoon is active over Bangladesh and remains strong over the northern Bay of Bengal.

As a result, during the 24 hours from 9:00am on Sunday, most places in the Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and many places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Dhaka divisions are likely to experience temporary gusty winds accompanied by light to moderate rain or thundershowers.

In addition, some areas in the Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions may experience moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, a mild heat wave continues over Rangpur Division and the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Dhaka, Kishoreganj, Tangail, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Feni, Cox's Bazar, and Chuadanga, although it is expected to subside.

Daytime temperatures across the country may decrease by 1°C to 3°C, while nighttime temperatures may fall slightly.

Along with the seaports, the BMD has also issued Cautionary Signal No. 1 for several inland river ports.

In a special warning issued for inland river ports, in place from 9:00am to 6:00pm on Sunday, the department said that the regions of Rajshahi, Pabna, Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, and Sylhet may experience temporary squally winds from the south or southeast at speeds of 45–60 kmph, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms.

Accordingly, inland river ports in these areas have been instructed to display Cautionary Signal No. 1.

According to observations up to 9am on Sunday, the country's highest temperature during the previous 24 hours was recorded in Rangpur, at 37.6°C.
