The Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Tuesday installed AI-based traffic cameras at four more intersections.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed said this while speaking to reporters after inaugurating the AI cameras on Lake Road under the Tejgaon Traffic Division at the office of the deputy commissioner of traffic in Tejgaon.
The DMP commissioner said AI cameras had previously been installed at 15 intersections, and the addition of four more on Tuesday has raised the total to 19.
"So far, 1,500 traffic cases have been filed through the AI camera system, while summons have been issued to the owners of 38,000 vehicles," he said.
He added that the amount of fines varies depending on the nature of the offence, and the traffic division maintains updated records of the total fines collected.
Mosleh Uddin also said work is underway to install AI-powered traffic cameras at other major intersections across the city as part of efforts to strengthen traffic management and enforcement.
