After the series defeat to Zimbabwe mainly owing to a poor batting show, Bangladesh have been slapped with a 10 percent fine on their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against the hosts in the second one-dayer.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the decision on Friday, a day after the Tigers suffered a 13-run humiliation and handed Zimbabwe a 2-0 lead in the three-match series at the Harare Sports Club.
“David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction as Bangladesh were ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration,” the ICC said.
The penalty is in line with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
According to the global cricket body, the decision did not need a formal hearing as Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz pled guilty to the offence and accepted the sanction.
On-field umpires Allahudien Palekar and Iknow Chabi, third umpire Percival Sizara and fourth umpire Forster Mutizwa levelled the charge.
Despite restricting Zimbabwe to 141 in the first match of the series, the Tigers lost by 25 runs and will try to avoid a whitewash at the same venue on Saturday
