The government has given State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit the responsibility of coordinating rescue, relief distribution and rehabilitation activities to deal with the ongoing flooding in Chattogram and the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
A notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Friday said that he will coordinate the activities of all government agencies in rescue, relief distribution and rehabilitation activities.
The Cabinet Division said that State Minister Amit will assess the extent of flood damage, take stock of relief materials stored with the local administration, and coordinate rescue activities.
He will provide necessary advice and ensure coordination in the work of all concerned ministries, divisions, directorates, organisations, district and local administrations and forces.
Amit is also tasked with giving necessary instructions to assess the damage and formulate rehabilitation plans in flood-affected areas.
He will take prompt action and supervise to ensure the adequacy of relief materials in the concerned areas and inform the government from time to time about the flood situation and the measures taken, the notice said.
The notification stated that the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, the Chattogram Division commissioner, concerned deputy commissioners, law enforcing agencies, local government institutions, and all concerned government agencies will provide necessary administrative and technical support to the state minister.
