Two men have been killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a motorcycle in Chattogram.

The accident occurred on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway in Lohagora Upazila on Thursday night, police say.

The victims were identified as Md Rakib, 21, and Md Jihad, 20. They were residents of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila, bdnews24.com reports

Md Mahbub Alam, chief of Dohazari Highway Police Station, said that the victims were taking a trip from Cox’s Bazar to Rangamati’s Sajek with a group of friends. Along the way, their motorcycle collided with a fish-laden truck travelling in the opposite direction.

“They were thrown from their vehicle and run over by the truck, killing them on the spot,” said Mahbud.

The truck has been seized, and its driver and his assistant have been detained, he added.

Locals said that a group of six friends had set off on three motorcycles to Sajek. Rakib and Jihad’s vehicle was involved in an accident.

When the truck attempted to flee the scene, it was chased down by the two other motorcycles. The truck was eventually stopped in Lama’s Aziznagar area before being turned over to the police.
