Bangladeshi maritime professional Tanjil Ahmed Ruhullah has been elected to the YoungShip International Board as Regional Representative for Asia and the Middle East.
He became the first Bangladeshi to secure a position on the organisation's international governing body.
The election took place at YoungShip International's Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on June 17, according to a press release.
Tanjil serves as Managing Director and Head of Claims at Interport Group and is the founding chairman of YoungShip Bangladesh.
His election is being viewed as a notable development for Bangladesh's maritime sector, reflecting the growing participation of Bangladeshi professionals in international shipping and maritime organisations.
Since establishing YoungShip Bangladesh, Tanjil has worked to expand the chapter's activities, focusing on professional development, industry collaboration, youth engagement and networking opportunities for maritime professionals.
According to the statement, the YoungShip International Election Committee acknowledged his contributions to the organisation and expressed confidence in his ability to represent members across the Asia and Middle East region.
As Regional Representative, Tanjil will serve on the YoungShip International Board and represent members from a region that plays a significant role in global trade and shipping. His responsibilities will include contributing to the organisation's strategic initiatives, strengthening cooperation among regional chapters and supporting leadership development within the maritime industry.
Founded in Norway in 2004, YoungShip International is a network for young professionals in the maritime and shipping sectors. The organisation has more than 5,000 members across over 40 chapters in more than 20 countries and provides platforms for professional development, networking and knowledge sharing.
YoungShip Bangladesh welcomed the election, describing it as an important achievement for the country's maritime community and expressing hope that it would help strengthen engagement between Bangladeshi maritime professionals and the global shipping industry.
