The government has appointed Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Sarwar Hossain as a deputy governor of the central bank.

He has been appointed on a three-year contractual basis, subject to voluntary retirement from his current post and the suspension of his post-retirement leave (PRL), according to a notification issued by the finance ministry on Tuesday.

The notification said Sarwar's term as deputy governor will begin from the date he assumes office.

Bangladesh Bank currently has four deputy governors: Nurun Nahar, Habibur Rahman, Zakir Hossain Chowdhury and Kabir Ahmad.

Nahar's tenure will end on Jul 1, making Tuesday her final working day.
