Three members of a family were allegedly stabbed by their rivals over the payment of a debt in the capital's Banani area early Saturday.

The victims were identified as Sumon Mia, 45, his wife Sonia, 38, and Sonia's brother Russel, 40, UNB reprots.

Jane Alam, sub-inspector of Banani Police Station, said Sumon and one Arif had arranged to meet near Mohakhali Wireless Sishu Mela School around 4:30 am.

Sumon, a resident of Mohakhali T&T Colony, was accompanied by his wife and brother-in-law Russel, while Arif arrived with seven to eight associates.

An altercation ensued between Arif and Sumon over the payment of a debt.

At one stage, Arif and his associates allegedly beat up Sumon, Sonia and Russel before stabbing them indiscriminately, leaving all three injured.

Hearing their screams, locals rushed to the scene and took the injured to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Police are trying to arrest the attackers, SI Jane Alam said.
