Iranian state TV has warned talks in Islamabad could be cancelled if Tehran’s preconditions are not met.

A correspondent on state-run channel IRINN said negotiations must respect Iran’s “interests, demands and red lines”.

She said withdrawing from talks that fail to meet these could be seen as an “achievement” under what officials describe as “assertive diplomacy”.

The correspondent had earlier said the Iranian delegation was expected to meet Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif before any talks with the US, with details to follow after the meeting.

State TV has stressed Iran’s conditions and lack of trust in the US, saying Tehran holds the upper hand and could proceed without talks if its demands are not met.
