The country's rate of inflation spiked in June last over its corresponding month last year.
Overall inflation stood at 9.16 per cent, up by 0.68 percentage points year-on-year, according to BBS.
Food inflation 8.60 per cent while it was 7.39 per cent a year earlier.
Non-food inflation surged to 9.61 per cent in the month, against 9.37 per cent in June last year.
Economists say the overall inflation remained above 9.0 per cent in June 2026 as both food and non-food items were more expensive than in the corresponding month a year earlier.
“Inflationary pressures were relatively higher in rural areas than in urban areas”, said an economist.
